Suffragette was released in October 2015 to extremely positive critical acclaim. The director, Sarah Gavron, had directed the film Brick Lane and the writer had worked on “The Iron Lady” and several television series such as “The Hour” but more recently “Shame” directed by Steve McQueen.
The real revelation of this film is that we all think we know about the suffragettes but here we can see the commitment and true dedication it took to fight for women’s rights. It’s not a particularly easy watch but is so well done and so well acted and such an important part of British history that it is a truly rewarding viewing experience.
